MP accused of Jah Prayzah attack

THE attack on musician Jah Prayzah spilled into Parliament on Wednesday with Norton Independent legislator Temba Mliswa accusing Zanu PF Harare South MP Shadreck Mashayamombe of being behind the assault.

Jah Prayzah was stoned by angry mourners purportedly bouncers at the burial of his former security manager Chris Nyemba at Glen Forest Cemetery in Harare this week for allegedly failing to contribute towards the deceased’s funeral.

The bouncers also accused the lanky singer of ill-treating the deceased when he was still working for the Third Generation band as the head of security.

Jah Prayzah’s stoning was raised amid chaos in the august house as legislators demanded to know when their sitting allowances and Constituency Development Fund (CDF) would be disbursed.

Things eventually came to a head when Mliswa and Mashayamombe almost came to blows after they traded accusations.
During the confrontation Mliswa openly told Mashayamombe that he was a thug and said he was behind the assault of Jah Prayzah.

“You are a land baron, you are a land baron. Go and get your money from those people that you sold stands to, we do not have money. I am not Jah Prayzah. . .You are a thug and I am not a thug.  Did you not cause the assault of Jah Prayzah? We will get to the bottom of this – I am done with you.”

Mashayamombe responded saying, “Hapana apo.  You are the thug. On a point of order, he is insulting me.”

However, Mliswa went on to savage Mashayamombe saying the Zanu PF Harare provincial commissar is corrupt.

“Are you not a land baron; are you not a land baron?  You are a land baron, so sit down. Sit down. Go to your G40 where you steal money.  You have destroyed the country and you have misled the leaders of this country. Get away — go and sit down.  You are a land baron. I am done with you.  The truth hurts.  You now have a big stomach and where did you get the money from?”

Jah Prayzah is accused of singing songs sympathetic to Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is said to be leading the Lacoste faction while Mashayamombe is strongly linked to Generation 40 (G40), a faction opposed to Mnangagwa succeeding Mugabe.

Sources who where at the funeral said chaos started after Jah Prayzah’s security team allegedly tried to forcibly disperse people to make way for him.

The bouncers at the funeral and other mourners did not take it lightly and started stoning the singer and his security details.
Jah Prayzah was forced to run for dear life with the marauding mourners baying for his blood.

The Third Generation boss had to thank 2 Kings Entertainment boss Tich Mharadze who rescued him by quickly driving him away from the scene.

In the process, the businessman-cum-promoter’s vehicle was dented and scratched as they were trying to make a quick getaway.
Jah Prayzah’s manager, Keen Mushapaidze, who was in the company of the beleaguered musician, confirmed the attack.

“We arrived just like other mourners to pay our last respects to Nyemba. From nowhere some bouncers started attacking Jah Prayzah.
“We suspect the bouncers had grudges with him so maybe they found the burial as a better place to settle their grudges,” he said.
Mushapaidze said Jah Prayzah had since reported the case to Harare Central Police Station.

“We will make sure that the perpetrators will be brought to book. We know some of them,” he said.
