Man offers rape victim $1

A MAN who offered a 13-year-old girl one dollar to silence her after rape appeared in court this week.
Zivanai Madzima, 21, of Whitestone, Hatfield in Harare was advised to apply for bail at the High Court when he appeared before magistrate Rumbidzayi Mugwagwa.

He was remanded in custody to July 7 pending trial.

The complainant is a 13-year-old girl who was residing at the same residence with Madzima at the material time.

Prosecutor Linda Gadzikwa alleged that on June 4 this year the minor went to Madzima’s house to borrow a Bible which she wanted to use for her homework.

The court heard that Madzima occasionally lent her the Bible and on that day she knocked at his room before entering.

It was alleged that Madzima suddenly stood from his bed and locked the door before asking the child for sex.
The minor allegedly turned down Madzima’s request and he violently pushed her to the bed before removing his clothes.

The court heard that Madzima raped the minor and gave her a dollar after the act.

He reportedly told her to rush home and never reveal the ordeal or face unspecified action.

The matter came to light after a builder who had seen the juvenile entering Madzima’s residence became suspicious and advised her sister.

The juvenile was confronted by her sister and opened up about the incident before a police report was made.
In another incident on June 24, Tinashe Karakadzai, 25, who is also facing rape charges was coming from Tichagarika shops in Glenview 3 around 2am and met the complainant, 25, who was going to her house in Budiriro.

The court heard that when they arrived at Budiriro 3 turn-off, Karakadzai tripped the woman and she fell before telling her that he was a cop and could have sex for two hours non- stop.

It was alleged that Karakadzai threatened to strangle the woman to death before rapping her twice and fled from the scene.

Karakadzai was later traced and arrested.
