Man fined $50 over 25c dagga

A 31-year-old man has been slapped with a $50 fine for possession of a 25 cent dagga stub.

Clever Bungu of Sakubva was convicted on his own plea of guilty by magistrate Innocent Bepura.
He was being charged of contravening Section 157 (1)(b) of Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23 of unlawful possession or use of dangerous drugs.

It was the State’s case that Bungu was arrested on May 9, 2017 at around 18:30 hours in some bushes in Maonde in the course of smoking the illicit drug by police officers on patrol duty.

He had been left with a 25 cent stub of dagga.

Bungu was promptly taken to Sakubva Police Station where he was detained pending his appearance in court on Wednesday.
