Fungisai embraces 'church person' tag

AFTER being on the receiving end of some fierce criticism by the public following revelations that she was not a “church person” early last year, musician Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave has convinced herself to embrace and promote the brand “church person.”

In most of her latest songs, the Makomborero hit-maker chants ‘‘church person music’’ a clear indication that the criticism has affected her to the bone.

Fungisai told the WeekendPost that she is struggling to secure funding and sponsors as she wants to officially rebrand and officially launch her music under ‘‘Church Person Music’’ brand.

“If I will get a sponsor I will re-brand to Church Person Music and officially launch it.  It is only sad that our corporates hardly see value in females and worse Christian artistes. Unotonzwa mamwe mamarketing managers for big corporates vachiti ‘ah zve-gospel!’

“It’s really sad that my music is enjoyed at all social gatherings across board . . . but when it comes to involving some of them in our projects, they naturally look down upon me mainly because I am female and Christian.

“Yet 80 percent of Zimbabweans that translate to their market are Christians. So I am waiting for real corporates that believe in this female Christian music brand, then I will launch my Church Person Music label in style because I don’t like mediocrity,” Fungisai told the WeekendPost.

She said the Church Person Brand’ was inspired by her ability to always look at the bright side of things in life.
“The 2016 media reports claimed that I was not a church person and I had to endure harsh words from the world whilst waiting for my vindication,” she said.—Vasco Chaya
