Gloria in drive to empower women

NATIONAL Foods, through its Gloria Flour brand (Gloria), over the weekend toured Bulawayo as part of its initiative aimed at empowering and uplifting women as well as promoting its brand.
The City of Kings was the second stop of the Gloria Tour after the first concert was held in Chitungwiza earlier last week.

Speaking during the tour, Gloria brand manager Angela Mpala said women occupied an integral part of their organisation’s mission.

“The Gloria Tour started with an idea which has women in the forefront,” Mpala said.

“You know how women love to sing and be uplifted by music. So, as Gloria, we thought of how best we can bring these people together so we thought of coming up with a song that women can relate to.

“So if you listen to the music it’s all about empowering and uplifting women,” she said.

The song, Gloria: You will shine produced by South African Andrew Bard was put together by six local musicians — Jah Prayzah, Suluman Chimbetu, Sebastian Magacha, Selmor Mtukudzi, Shinsoman and Aliana.

“Just like baking where you mix various ingredients, we looked for six different artistes from different genres who are currently making waves and that most women like.

“The song uplifts women and it speaks to women,” Mpala said.
She said the song was officially launched last month in the capital but started featuring on local airwaves beginning of this month.

The star-studded line up of musicians who were also part of the tour never disappointed as they, as anticipated, entertained the crowd who braved the incessant rains to attend the event where many walked away with packets of Gloria Flour.
